The Girls Going Global journey to Ghana is a bold reimagining of what’s possible for young Black girls. Rooted in identity, sisterhood, and empowerment, this experience transcends borders and transforms lives.

Participants will explore their identity through intentional workshops, immerse themselves in Ghanaian culture, connect with local girls, and shadow inspiring professionals across global career paths. Alongside 99 other changemakers, they'll form lifelong bonds—and return ready to lead with purpose.

Bridging Dreams and Global Access

As part of the Fill-A-Plane initiative, Possibility Paths are immersive career tracks that connect girls to powerful industries in the U.S. and Ghana. Over 9 months, participants explore fields like medicine, entrepreneurship, creative arts, and public service through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and global site visits—culminating in real-world exposure with professionals abroad.

From clinics in Accra to boardrooms in D.C., these paths turn aspiration into action.

  • Leading with Purpose. Serving with Vision.
    This path unites girls passionate about civic leadership, social impact, and community transformation. They’ll explore careers across government, international relations, NGOs, and grassroots organizing—gaining insight into how policies are shaped and how justice is pursued both locally and globally.

  • Creating Culture. Telling Our Stories.
    From visual arts to music and fashion to film, this path empowers girls to explore creative careers that shape identity, preserve culture, and amplify underrepresented voices. They’ll engage with artists and media professionals who are using creativity as a tool for connection and change.

  • Healing Hands. Healthy Futures.
    This track introduces girls to professions that center wellness, healing, and care—from doctors and nurses to mental health counselors and public health advocates. They’ll discover the many paths to creating healthier communities and saving lives.

  • Bold Ideas. Global Impact.
    Whether it’s launching a startup, leading a Fortune 500, or investing in community enterprises, this path equips girls with the mindset and skills to thrive in global business. They’ll connect with entrepreneurs, financial experts, and innovators shaping the world economy.

  • Building the Future. Breaking Barriers.
    This path focuses on the intersection of science, innovation, and technology—from coding and cybersecurity to engineering and data science. Girls will explore how STEM fields are shaping the future and how they can lead in tomorrow’s tech-powered world.

From safety to eligibility, here’s everything you need to know about our program. We’re here to make sure you feel confident every step of the way.

  • Participants will explore Ghana through a lens of culture, identity, and leadership. Activities may include:

    • Visits to historical sites like the Cape Coast Slave Castle

    • Community service and inter-cultural exchange

    • Beach days, museum visits, and market tours

    • Leadership and identity workshops

    • A special naming ceremony honoring Ghanaian traditions

  • All participants will need a valid passport, visa for Ghana, and proof of required vaccinations. GGG will provide detailed guidance and support to ensure each girl is prepared with the necessary documentation.

  • Yes — eligibility is based on high school enrollment, which typically includes students ages 13 to 18.

    Applicants must:

    • Be enrolled in high school at the time of application

    • Be between the ages of 13 and 18 by July 1, 2026 (time of travel)

    This means:

    • If a student is 12 now but will be 13 and in high school by July 2026, they are eligible.

    • If a student is 17 now and will be 18 and still in high school by July 2026, they are eligible.

    Our goal is to support high school girls during their formative years through this unique global experience.

  • Absolutely. Safety is GGG’s top priority. All chaperones undergo federal background checks, complete First Aid and CPR certification, and submit Childline and Abuse Registry Clearance Forms.

    All participants must also show proof of valid health and travel insurance. We partner with trusted vendors and local teams in Ghana to ensure a safe, secure, and enriching experience

  • For our 100 Girls to Ghana program, participants will be divided into five groups of 20. Each group will be supported by 4 adult volunteer chaperones and 2–3 junior chaperones (GGG alumnae age 18+), totaling approximately 20 adult chaperones and 15–20 junior chaperones overall.

    Chaperones are selected through a competitive application and interview process and receive training in youth safety, cultural sensitivity, and international travel preparation. All chaperones must complete background checks and child safety clearances prior to travel.

  • No. To ensure participants gain independence and build peer relationships, parents or guardians of selected girls may not serve as chaperones.

  • The total cost of the GGG 100 Girls to Ghana experience is approximately $6,500 per participant. However, thanks to corporate sponsors, grants, and community donations, Girls Going Global is covering the majority of this cost.

    Participants are asked to contribute a $2,000 program fee, which can be paid over time or through guided fundraising. GGG provides tools and support to help each girl meet her goal.

  • Yes. A non-refundable deposit of $250 is required to confirm participation and secure your spot in the program.

  • Yes! GGG provides flexible payment plans, as well as personalized fundraising guidance and digital tools to help each girl reach her $2,000 goal. No one will be expected to navigate this alone.

  • The $2,000 program fee covers:

    • Round-trip airfare from Atlanta to Accra

    • Lodging and all in-country transportation

    • Daily meals and excursions

    • Cultural activities and workshops

    • Leadership development programming

    • Travel coordination and safety oversight

  • All participants will need a valid passport, visa for Ghana, and proof of required vaccinations. GGG will provide detailed guidance and support to ensure each girl is prepared with the necessary documentation.
